About
Dr. Michelle Montgomery Thompson is an Associate Professor at the ¿ì²¥µ¼º½ in the Department of Planning & Urban Studies (UNO PLUS). Dr. Thompson received a Masters’ in Regional Planning'84 and Ph.D.'01 from the Cornell ¿ì²¥µ¼º½ Department of City and Regional Planning with a focus on community development and spatial analysis using geographic information systems (GIS). Thompson received her Bachelor of Arts in Policy Studies from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs from Syracuse ¿ì²¥µ¼º½ in 1982. In 2015, Thompson obtained her Geographic Information Systems Professional certification (GISP).
Courses:
Dr. Thompson teaches a variety of courses in applied geographic information systems, community development finance, housing, transportation, urban studies, neighborhood and land use planning. Thompson adds geospatial training & data visualization to public policy analysis. Thompson also teaches on environmental justice which includes economic justice & environmental racism.
Research Interests
Dr. Michelle Montgomery Thompson pioneered, and applies, the public & private participation geographic information systems model (p3GIS, 2019) to evaluate local development, economic shocks & public policy interventions in urban centers.
